Hello! Welcome! I think I'm finally going to commit to a regular blog writing thing so, if anyone cares, here's the first edition of it!
Over the last two-or-so years I've always documented the films I've watched; I've kept my iMDB watchlist up to date, done the same on another app, kept a note of all the films I watched for the first time in each individual year. I've also wanted to start writing reviews for films but just haven't quite gotten around to it. This film diary thing is going to be a kind of mix of keeping not and reviewing films, every now and then I'll write a lengthier review, but most of the time it'll just be a quick write up of my thoughts. So that's what this is, so let's get into the first one.
Attack on Titan is one of my, if not my most, favourite shows at the moment. I get so excited for late Sunday evenings when I can watch the newest ep. So when I saw the blu-ray for the movie in CEX for a few quid I thought, why not? I had a look at the reviews, it didn't look great, and when I finally got around to watching it I had quite low expectations.
It did not hit those expectations.
This is a bad film. A bad film. But I still had fun watching it. The things that work so well for the anime just do not work for live action at all; the design and execution of the live action titans is quite frankly horrifying. I assume they were trying to do the whole 'realistic' take on it, butI don't think its a source material that can be made 'realistic'. It loses all the gorgeous colour and style that is one of the most enjoyable aspects of the anime and instead it is really dark and grey with some excessively gory moments and some very, very strange sexual moments.
But there is always something satisfying about watching a titan beat up another titan while regular sized humans zip about in the air. Maybe thats just me.
This film isn't good, at all, but, honestly, I had fun watching it. And if you enjoy the same things I do, and find some entertainment watching something that isn't great, then you may just enjoy it too.
Oh and I think there's a second one. Hahahaha.
